Our Studio Story
Fernweh Pottery was born in 2023 from a simple desire to slow down and explore creativity. Jenny (founder) started exploring handbuilding—pinching, and slab-building raw clay into functional forms to make handmade cups for her and her partner to enjoy coffee in at home. A few months later Jenny went to a wheel throwing class that changed everything. The practice of wheel throwing demanded absolute focus and a therapetic connection with the clay. After months of practicing hand-building Jenny invested in a potters wheel and began teaching wheel classes from home to allow others to explore and learn a new skill. That is how Fernweh started and gradually evolved into the business and passion it is today!
Fernweh Pottery is named after the German concept of fernweh—a deep, aching desire to travel and explore distant lands—our pottery is made for the adventurers and lovers of picturesque landscapes and the wonderful colours that nature provides.
In July 2025 we moved to Innerleithen, Scottish Borders and opened up our very first shop and studio. This is where we throw, fire and glaze everything to create functional ceramics that elevate your daily rituals, hand crafted to bring a piece of the wide, beautiful world right into your hands.
Now in 2026 Jenny and partner Tim work alongside each other to allow the Fernweh to flourish and grow, with work featuring in many retailers, museums and galleries around the UK.
