Pottery Course near Edinburgh - 5 week Beginner Wheel Throwing Course

Every Saturday for 2 hours from 2-4 pm

Dates : 4th January , 11th January , 18th January, 25th January , 1st February 

Suitable for ages 18+

At the end of the course you will have 6-8 finished items!

Join our 5-week beginner pottery course focusing on wheel-thrown processes. No prior experience needed, but also suitable for those who have done 1-2 classes prior. We will have 2 potters wheels in use during each session.

Learn to throw many forms on the wheel for example mugs and bowls. You will get the opportunity to learn trimming techniques, how to centre and glaze your finished products!

Each 2-hour session offers hands-on guidance in a small group setting of up to 4 people for close attention and tutoring.

We will be working with a smooth white stoneware clay perfect for throwing with.

All items will be food and drink safe when glazed properly.

Commitment to all five sessions is required.

This course will only run if a minimum of 2 people book on, otherwise you will be refunded and you can reschedule for another date.  

Location : The workshop will be held in Dolphinton, South Lanarkshire. I will email you the specific workshop address upon booking.

 

Course Schedule:

Week1: Getting to know the potter's wheel. Practice throwing bowls.

Week 2: Trim your bowls made in the week prior and learn carving techniques.

Week 3: Learning to throw cylinders, introduction to centering and coning.

Week 4: Learning to trim cylinders and attaching handles, learn sgraffito decoration.

Week 5: Learn how to glaze your pottery designs.

 

£220pp this includes your materials, underglazes, glazes, and firings. There will be a max of 4 people per class.

Cancellation: Any cancellations made within 14 days of the first course date cannot be refunded, however, I will do my best to find an alternative date to reschedule. Finished items: I will take great care to ensure your pieces makes it through the entire process, however, due to the nature of ceramics there remains a risk it might not survive. I cannot be held responsible for any undesirable outcomes, including cracking, chips, misfires or explosions. Safety: I am not liable and cannot be held responsible for any accidents to students or any loss or damage to personal possessions.
