5 week Intermediate Wheel Throwing Course

(This course is only for potters who have completed a 5 week beginner course with Fernweh Pottery already)

When? Fridays 6-8pm on 5th February, 12th February, 19th February , 26th February, 5th March. Where? Our Pottery Studio location is 54a High Street, Innerleithen

Suitable for intermediate potters who have done a 5 week beginner course with Fernweh Pottery prior. This course is suitable for adults only.

Course outline :

Further develop your skills to throw many forms on the wheel for example mugs,  bowls, jugs, small plates, bud vases and more! You will get the opportunity to develop your skills and confidence further in throwing, trimming, centering and glaze your products too!

Each 2-hour session offers hands-on guidance in a small group setting of up to 4 people for close attention and tutoring.

At the end of the course you will have around 6-8 finished items!

We will be working with a smooth white stoneware clay perfect for throwing with.

All items will be food and drink safe when glazed properly.

Commitment to all five sessions is required.

Course Schedule:

Week1: Throwing week - Refresh throwing techniques for bowls + mugs, with more consistent forms and controlled wall thickness.

Week 2: Trim your pots from the week prior and further throwing practice with centering to develop more shape control while throwing.

Week 3: Learning to throw small side plates, and learning collaring for more narrow neck vessels like bud vases.

Week 4: Trim your ceramics and explore carving decoration to get all vessels ready for firing

Week 5: Glaze your pottery designs.
